Sometimes all of the various activities and options offered through the University of Maine Wellness Program don’t quite exactly match the interests of an employee or group of employees.
Or, there are some other great ideas about creative ways to focus on fitness throughout the year.
That’s where a Campus Wellness Champion can play a key role in keeping everything and EVERYONE moving!
Take Joyce Plourde and her colleagues at UMFK for example.
To take advantage of a streak of great weather, getting outdoors, and having fun
with friends at the same time, employees worked to plan a Bike, Run, Walk event
along the community’s Heritage Trail.
Working together, the proposal was developed and submitted for approval for
Level Two qualification and a taxable $100 cash award come December. It didn’t
take long for the reviewers to see the potential benefit of some homegrown ingenuity
The green light…the UMFK green light…quickly followed and on
Wednesday, July 11 fourteen Bengals braved the noonday sun to walk, jog,
and bike along the Rail Trail…half an hour out from the Cyr Hall rallying point
and thirty minutes back.
Whether it’s snowshoes or Bike-Run-Walk, count on UMFK to keep moving toward healthier and happier lifestyles!
