How Your TrestleTree Health Coaches Spent Their Summer (Vacation?)
Ever wonder how those who help guide and mentor our own wellness efforts find time for their own fitness?
Here’s how TrestleTree coaches Kyle, Lynn and Hilary are spending their summer vacation…finding that work/life balance so important to maintain moving forward.
Summer is my favorite time of year because we live in Maine! I love to play pickleball, kayak,
and paddleboard and be on the water as much as possible. The other activity I love
(and it is year-round) is keeping up with my three and six-year-old grandkids.
Summer is my favorite time of year to focus on health. I typically recommend adding
health habits to existing life joys to improve health. I love to read, spend time with my
family and be outdoors. Family hiking and running with my dog are two ways I fit exercise
into my summer routine. I also read eBooks when running on the treadmill during poor weather. I love to garden, and the fresh fruits and vegetables are used for our meals and snacks.
Fresh salmon along with vegetable kabobs are a family favorite. The grill is a wonderful way
to consume a healthy meal with limited clean up. However, beware of the processed meats
and high sugar sauces that are used while grilling.
I find it much easier to stick with my exercise in the summer months
by doing something I really enjoy outside. Living in Maine, our
summers are far too short! I really love to make the most of them.
During the summer, I book extra time on my lunch hour and I head over
to the track for a workout. I used to compete in Track and Field at
the University of Maine at Orono, so participating in the events or doing
a track workout is something I really enjoy. On the sunny days, I
get outside, enjoy some sun, and improve my health. It's something
that works really well for me. On the rainy days, I use the extra time to go
to the gym. I find it is important to not forget about my gym routine in the summer months because it makes it much harder to adhere to when winter comes around again. I highly suggest a lunch time routine to anyone who works with a schedule that is flexible enough. It breaks up your day, reduces your work stress, and it is highly motivating! You already booked the time off... what else are you going to do!?
