No question, there’s plenty to keep Katie Mahoney and Amy Blaisdell busy in the Office of the Treasurer at the University of Southern Maine. But, that doesn’t keep them from stepping into their roles as campus Wellness Champions and seizing a unique opportunity to plan something special!
Brainstorming ideas with Natalie Jones, Meghan Schratz, and Lisa Eddy from the Office of Human Resources along with other creative and energetic Huskies recently resulted in a partnership to sponsor some new and exciting fitness and community-building concepts.

InformingU@USM is part of a year long initiative to encourage employee engagement, some creative programming for the month of April has been developed and has campuses buzzing.
That’s right. April is shining a spotlight on wellness at USM and there are three programs inviting everyone in Portland, Gorham, and Lewiston-Auburn to participate and share in the fun and fitness.
Maybe you’re feeling the Eastern Trail Event! Scheduled to take place on April 29, it’s a chance for employees to get outside and greet Spring no matter their workday schedule. And, because it’s set for a Saturday, the whole family can participate together in a 1-1.5-mile walk or hike.
Make plans to join in and get your T-shirt to not only commemorate your having taken part, but recognize your friends and colleagues along the way at the same time.
Want to learn more? Visit usm.maine.edu/wellness and what’s even better, participation in the Eastern Trail Event counts toward satisfying your Level II health plan incentive!
How about the USM Wellness Walk? It’s a simultaneous celebration of Spring set for April 20 between the hours of 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. when everyone on all three USM campuses is invited to step out on a 1-1.5-mile circuit of campus and join together in an activity happening at the same time in Portland, Gorham, and Lewiston-Auburn.
Don’t forget to grab your complimentary water bottle, (save it to hydrate in the office as part of your ongoing fitness plan)!
Like the Eastern Trail Event, the USM Wellness Walk also counts toward fulfilling your Level II incentive.

And, as a reminder, everyone is invited to join in the Husky Day of Service event on Friday, April 14th.
Also counting toward Level II, this collaboration with the USM Office of Community Engagement offers
